#6 to the BIG APPLE

Lebron James filed today to have his jersey number switched from 23 to 6 for the 2010-2011 NBA Season. Lebron has been quoted as saying that he is doing this because he believes that 23 should be retired by the NBA in honor of Michael Jordan. I quite frankly think this is the biggest crock of shit I have ever heard. This is Lebron flat out saying I am coming to New York.

What is the point of him changing his number seven years into his already Hall of Fame NBA career? Because he knows when he wins in New York people will call him the other #23. Who wants to have the same number as the one person’s legacy that you are trying to out do. I mean Lebron coming to the KNICKS next year is bigger then Jesus Shuttlesworth announcing in “He Got Game” that he was going to Big State. (I mean you think Jesus was the man in that movie, I can't even write in words what Lebron is going to be here in NYC)

Lebron is meant for this city. Guy is flat out a born business man. He knows that Cleveland is not the place where he will be regarded for his greatness as much as New York will. Jordan did it in Chicago and Kobe is doing it in LA, those are huge markets. Lebron knows that he has the chance to take the MECCA OF BASKETBALL and bring it back to life.

Rewind 10 years ago and KNICKS basketball might have had a bigger following then the Yankees. I mean what was bigger then Knicks/Heat or Knicks/Pacers back then. LJ's 4-Point Play, Jeff Van Gundy hanging onto Alonzo Mourning's leg and Allan Houston's game winner in Game 5 at Miami is a moment I will never forgot (check it out)

Here in New York we have the luxury of choosing between the Yankees/Mets, Jets/Giants and Islanders/Rangers but we have ONE basketball team (the NETS don't fucking count so save it). Lebron James would ignite the flame of 10 million hungry basketball fans and if you don't think King James knows that then you just keep on believing he is changing his number out of respect for MJ.

Only 120 days, 7 hours, 10 mins, 8 seconds until LBJ becomes a NEW YORK KNICK!!

  1. There is only one problem with this abstract thought, the only reason Lebron would need to file paperwork with the league is if he stays with Cleveland… you do not need the leagues approval to change your number when moving to a different franchise… so basically all that Lebron filing for a number change tells us is that he wants to be a Cavalier next year… but good post.

  2. Can you say Publicity Stunt...a businessman like Lebron knows every move he makes, and if he was definitely staying in Cleveland why not come out and say it?

  3. I can’t say I disagree; it is no secret Lebron has a head on his shoulders. You could even say he’s preparing himself for all possible opportunities come deal time. But to use his filing with the NBA for a new number as the basis for your argument that he’s coming to NY is Moronic, in reality his filing supports no such junction…

“And why not come out and say it” – I think someone put too much sugar in the coffee today… you said it yourself, he is a business man, by stating he has made up his mind regarding his free agency would force competing teams into a preemptive frenzy to assure they were able to lock up talent in return decreasing the players (offers) on the table and potentially crippling what will be the largest contract in NBA history…
